The Grand Mistresses of France were made up of 12 women. Each one of them had a husband and they were all active masons. The secret behind these women was that they supported their men far more than just keeping house, making dinner, and taking care of the children. The work they did in secret was important to the Lodge and its work. These 12 grand mistresses would go out into the town and get the very poor woman off the street who would have to beg by selling bread, flowers, papers, etc. They would take them and whore them out.
